arconaut

A hood shades their face from the salt sun and the halogen lamps of the vacated underearth. Their cloak bulges around a scrapbag slung about their waist, and their core is tense with the promise of the chase.

Perfect

Not to be confused with the character generation option: Arconaut (Calling).

The arconaut is a prototypical denizen of the Caves of Qud. They can often be found wandering alone through underground caves, ruins, and dungeons. They are notable for the fact that they will rummage through trash and pick up items that they find lying on the ground, including items that the player has dropped or intentionally placed in the area.

In addition to the arconaut's guaranteed inventory items, they will also always spawn with 3d43-12 (Avg: 7.5) items from the Junk 1 loot tables[1], which can yield a wide variety of interesting objects.

Dialogue

[ Arconaut ]

*nods mutely*

Shh. Listen.

Live and drink.

I am peaceful.

Any dangers?

*ignores you*

Let's not linger together.

May the Eaters gift you.

Scrap for goods?

I might be willing to trade.

*shakes their head*

*puts a finger to their lips*

I'm armed. Don't try anything.

*tenses as you approach*

Found anything good?

Finders keepers.

Lot of good stuff down here. Lots of bad stuff too.

1) Live and drink, wayfarer. [End]

Trivia

This section is opinion-based. Your mileage may vary.
  • The arconaut's name might be based on the concept of Arcology, which, according to Wikipedia, is a portmanteau of "architecture" and "ecology" ... a field of creating architectural design principles for very densely populated, ecologically low-impact human habitats that has been popularized in a number of Science Fiction works.
