Fungal biome

A fungal biome is a biome that can occur in almost any location. It causes the zone it occurs in to be populated with various kinds of fungi, and the grass within the zone to be a distinct blue color. Fungal biomes do not override existing biomes, instead coinciding with them.

There are three different "intensities" of the fungal biome: the fungus patch, the fungus grove, and the fungus forest. These intensities usually occur in adjacent zones, with fungus forests often being bordered by fungus groves, and fungus groves by fungus patches.

Intensities

Fungus Patch

The fungus patch is the first intensity of the fungal biome.

Fungus patches contain numerous  spotted shagspooks,  dandy caps, and one random weep. The colors of the shapspooks and dandy caps will match the color of the weep found within the patch.[1] Additionally,  brooding azurepuffs,  brooding goldpuffs,  brooding jadepuffs, and  brooding rosepuffs can be found throughout the zone, with a seperate 66% chance for each type to have 1-3 instances present.[2][3]

Furthermore, creatures that spawn within a fungus patch have a 25% chance to be a friend to fungi.[4] Such creatures will have a chance to possess a specific, randomly assigned fungal infection on random limbs.[5] They will also be members of the fungi faction in addition to their normal faction affiliation.

Zones that contain a fungus patch will have "and fungus patch" appended to the end of their names.[6]

Fungus Grove

The fungus grove is the second intensity of the fungal biome.

Fungus groves contain a higher concentration of spotted shagspooks and dandy caps, and will have 2 random weeps. The colors of the shagspooks and dandy caps will be split between the two weeps, with those closer to a particular weep adopting that weep's colors. Each type of brooding puff has a seperate 60% chance of 2-3 instances of itself being present.[3]

Creatures within the fungus grove have a 25% chance of being a friend to fungi. Additionally, creatures have a 50% chance of being fungus-ridden.[4] Such creatures will have at least 2 instances of a specific, randomly assigned fungal infection on random limbs, with a high chance of additional instances.[7] They will also be members of the fungi faction in addition to their normal faction affiliation.

Zones that contain a fungus grove will have "and fungus grove" appended to the end of their names.[6]

Fungus Forest

The fungus forest is the third intensity of the fungal biome. Parasangs that contain fungus forests will be logged in the Journal under "Natural Features" when first encountered.

Fungus forests contain the highest concentration of spotted shagspooks and dandy caps, and will have 3 random weeps. Each type of brooding puff has a seperate 66% chance of 2-4 instances of itself being present.[3]

There are no friend to fungi present in fungus forests; instead, creatures have a 70% of being fungus-ridden.[4]

Zones that contain a fungus forest will have "and fungus forest" appended to the end of their names.[6]
