    Perfect

A leather whip is a melee weapon with no associated skill. It has a unique latching effect.

    Mechanics

When an attacker hits a target with the leather whip, it has a chance to latch on to the target. This effect is similar to the effect of maghammers, madpole jaws, or crypt ferret bites.

When hit, the target must succeed at an initial agility save of difficulty 14, or be latched onto by the whip for 3d43-12 (Avg: 7.5) turns:[1][2]

Your leather whip latches onto the hyrkhound!

After the latch succeeds, the target is latched onto. The target will then have a chance to break free each turn (including the same turn they are first latched onto) by succeeding at a strength save of difficulty 14 plus the attacker's strength modifier.[2]

The hyrkhound breaks free from your leather whip!

The attacker can also attempt to move while latching on to a target (and drag the target along with them) but the target will have a chance to resist that movement by succeeding at a separate strength save, with a flat difficulty of 14.[2]

    The hyrkhound stands his ground!

If the whip-wielder does not directly attack the target during their turn (either by standing still, by moving and pulling the target, or by doing something else), they will auto-attack the target with the leather whip at the end of the turn.

    Obtaining

    • Guaranteed to be carried by Mechanimist houndmasters.
    • Can be found as random loot in low-tier areas, such as areas near Joppa or the salt marsh. May occasionally be found in higher-tier areas, but the chance of finding one reduces exponentially when exploring higher tier areas.
