Mimics usually encountered alone and remain completely stationary until their prey comes to its melee range or attacks it first. Undisturbed mimics have an unique sprite (page picture) and therefore easy recognisable, but, if it already had a skirmish with someone before you saw it, it may have a diffetent sprite (most nasty case would probably be a mimic imitating a wall).

While in combat mode, mimic has a chance every turn to shift its image in form of some object from its immediate surroundings. Mimics cannot imitate empty space. Mimics chase their prey and attack in melee. Their melee attacks are capable of grabbing their prey (just like [[Jilted lover]]s) inflicting [[Stuck]] status effect.
