Welcome to the official (previously gamepedia) wiki! This page is for new visitors/editors who originally used the old fandom wiki, now cavesofqud-archive. There are a few things that we do differently around here, which is why a merge was not possible in the first place:

  1. Everything in ObjectBlueprints.xml is updated using QBE, not player added. If there is an issue with this autopopulated table, bother me (User:Teamtoto) or post something in #wiki-requests in the official discord channel.
  2. Emphasis is on making information accessible to modders. Caves of Qud is not an open source game, nor is its code publicly accessible. However, for purposes of modding, we reference methods from decompiled code.
  3. Information must be up to date. Most every page has an ambox in the reference section or a infobox footer denoting what patch of the game the data was added on. This way we know what information needs to be rechecked and what things are outdated. This is especially important when stuff changes every week.
  4. Fact and suggestions are separate and denoted as such. The official wiki denotes all subjective info and opinions using the Template:Opinion or Template:Speculation templates.
  5. Cargo is used to store and query information. This just makes things easier to maintain when an early access game such as this has attributes constantly changing. This allows it so that everything comes from one source, and only needs to be changed once.

So like technically this isn't really a merge rather than a replacement, but merging the information together in one place is what the goal for me is.

We also have a small but dedicated team who hang out in the official discord. If you have any questions in regards to editing, that's the best place to ask.

For new editors

First of all, visit the Style Guide for a more indepth article of the style of writing we expect in main namespace(no prefix) articles.

Easy starting places

This wiki is much newer than the old one, and thus emptier than the old fandom one. There are a couple of things that the old wiki has that this one does not, which I have compiled into a list:

  • Adding in information that was on the old wiki. This isn't to say "copy old wiki stuff over here". They must be rechecked for accuracy and edited to match the style guide of this wiki.
  • Adding gameplay tips (in a separate section from the main body)
  • Documenting old items, skills, mutations, etc that are no longer relevant but interesting from a historical perspective

We have a list of simple to-dos in Caves of Qud Wiki:To-do and Known Issues. In particular, we value blurbs for any items and creatures that lack a description other than the prepopulated one from QBE. A list of all undescribed objects can be found in Category:Pages with no description. Click here for a random page in this category and start editing!

Thanks!
