It is generally applied under the same circumstances as the [[liquid covered]] effect, except that the {{name}} effect has a much smaller chance of occurring. This chance is dependent on the physical properties of the liquid in question, including the liquid's ''fluidity'' and ''staining'' factor.<ref name="LiquidCovered" /> This effect can be applied when walking through or otherwise coming into contact with liquids. If a creature is walking through liquids, their equipped items also have a chance to be affected.

The exact name and description of this effect varies depending on the type of liquid that the object or creature is covered in. For example, a player who has walked through pools of {{favilink|brown sludge}} might end up with the following variant of {{name}}:

The player can remove this effect from themselves and all of their equipment by cleaning themselves with {{favilink|water}}. To do this, interact with a filled {{favilink|waterskin}} or other source of water and choose the {{qud text|clea&Wn &yall your items [1 dram]}} option.
