While at a campfire, you can cook from recipes, choose up to two ingredients to cook with, and preserve fresh foods.
Meals cooked from recipes bestow special status effects. Meals cooked with selected ingredients bestow dynamically-generated status effects.
Preserved foods are used as meal ingredients.

Meal Preparation is a free power which is typically unlocked by purchasing the Cooking and Gathering skill. Meal Preparation enables greater flexibility when cooking at a campfire or clay oven. A player with this power can select specific ingredients to cook with (instead of gathering random ingredients from the environment around them). This enables the player to access specific cooking effects of their choice, provided they have the required ingredients.

Food Preservation

In addition, the Meal Preparation power allows one to preserve raw meat, harvested plants, or other special items at a campfire or oven. Preserved foods offer the widest variety of potential effects when used as cooking ingredients.

For some examples of different types of food that can be preserved, refer to the Harvestry and Butchery pages. In addition to the food items listed on those pages, some special items, like tonics can also be preserved into ingredients.

Factions That Teach Meal Preparation

Meal Preparation is not taught by any of Qud's persistent factions. However, procedurally generated factions such as village factions can teach randomly chosen skills as part of their water ritual.

Creatures That Have Meal Preparation

No creatures have this by default.
