Lairs are randomly generated places spread around the map which resemble well preserved ruins. Each lair occupies one surface zone and one or more zones below it, and each zone except the bottom is guaranteed to contain a stairs down. At the bottom resides the lair owner, a legendary creature.

If the lair owner is a merchant, they will be accompanied by hired guards.
