Fire-On-Asphalt

Peculiar and little, the dawnglider-like glides not through the air but on the ground. He is propelled via a flexble plastron, sliding through all terrain with supreme alacrity. Low from where his head lies, a tendril of smoke twirls.

Recall Story

Peculiar Adaptations

There is some argument as to whether these wingless dawngliders evolved separately from their winged kin, and if not, whether the fork happened before or after domestication by the western Issachar caravans. The Issachari themselves have a broad variety of claims concerning the taming of the species, most of which are even plausible.

I'm inclined to keep a close eye on these creatures. The saltmarshes of Qud are poor hunting for our local dawnglider population; tall watervine and shallow pools can easily hide prey from a sky-predator. But one at ground level could sneak up on prey and boil them alive en masse. If a breeding pair were somehow introduced by a traveler passing through Joppa, it could devastate the salt marsh ecosystem.
