pentaceps is a lower cost feet-exclusive cybernetic which improves the range of the user's Charge by 4 tiles, allowing for charges of up to 7 tiles under normal circumstances. Unlike some other movement abilities such as Jump, charge requires a target in order to function, which while not directly stated, potential targets are not limited to creatures. Eligible targets include: objects such as walls, pools of liquid, dropped items, and certain environmental features like watervines.

It is not possible for the user to charge if they are currently engaged in melee combat, and any charge which does not connect with a solid object, such as one against an out of phase target, will lead to the user becoming dazed and then forcibly moved a distance of 9 tiles ignoring the length of the original charge.

Advantages & Disadvantages

Advantages

Disadvantages

  • Charge can sometimes place the user in a worse position than before, especially if they are limited to weak light sources such as torches or symbiotic fireflies.
  • The additional damage often becomes less impactful as a run progresses.
  • Mostly only provides utility in combat.
  • Using charge as a positioning tool can be clunky, especially when charging at non-solid targets.

Tips

  • The Juke skill can be used to move away from nearby hostile creatures allowing for the user to freely charge to another target.
  • Items can be dropped on the ground and selected as a charge target in order to move rapidly in one direction.
