Scratched vents are a variety of vent that houses chute crabs. Every 3 turns, one crab will appear from the vents in each cardinal direction. This is indicated by the vents flashing white the turn prior.

For each direction, the crab will appear at most 3 tiles away in a straight line, in the nearest tile to which there is unbroken line of sight from the vents. (Diagonals are never considered.)

Scratched vents only start emitting crabs once spotted by the player. They will not work as long as they're broken, rusted, or affected by EMP.
