Baboons |
Baboons are a faction in Caves of Qud, notorious for throwing stones. The majority of baboons inhabit the desert canyons and
hills.
After throwing a weapon, any baboon will retreat for a short time before advancing and throwing another.[1] Hostile baboons become terrified for 2 rounds if they are within 5 tiles of a player character equipped with a neck-ring.[2]
Being killed by a stone thrown by a baboon at Red Rock grants the Red Rock Hazing Ritual achievement.

Tips
This section is opinion-based. Your mileage may vary.
- Taking the
Thick Fur mutation or starting in the
hills, with a free
neck-ring, will grant neutral reputation with baboons.
- The lair of a legendary baboon also houses several legendary shrewd baboons with their troops,[3] providing a great opportunity for drastic changes in reputations.
- Water ritual secrets learned from baboons will be either random gossip or the locations of other legendary baboons. By selectively treating with them it is possible to locate a large number of other legendaries and amass a large supply of gossip. Afterwards, the player may engage in a large-scale baboon assassination campaign against those they did *not* water ritual for further reputation gain.
