Wet nostrils flare at the seat of their dropped snout, and furry arms wave in unpredicted motions. Their eyes are full of stony mischief.

Perfect

A baboon is a creature belonging to the baboons faction. Baboons can be found in the hills, as well as on the surfaces of Red Rock and the Rust Wells.[1]

Baboons attack by throwing small stones from a short distance. After throwing a stone, baboons will retreat for a short time before advancing and throwing another.[2] A baboon will spawn with 5 stones; if they run out of stones, or if their target comes within melee range, they will attack with their vicious bite, a natural short blade weapon that deals ♥1d21-2 (Avg: 1.5) damage.[3]

Like all creatures of the baboons faction, baboons will be inflicted with terrified for 2 rounds if they are hostile to a player equipped with a neck-ring, and come within 5 tiles of the player.[4]

Tips

This section is opinion-based. Your mileage may vary.
  • Baboons are a common killer for beginners who do not know how to deal with ranged enemies. They are unable to throw rocks at what they cannot see, so hiding behind trees/rocks and waiting is suggested instead of chasing them down to get pelted by several of them at once.
  • Baboons start hostile to player with their starting reputation unless they start in the hills (with a guaranteed neck-ring) or have Thick Fur, which boosts reputation to neutral levels. Taking either can be a way to avoid combat with them early on.
