Because mimics are passive until provoked and (more often than not) easily distinguishable, they can be simply left alone if your character is not up to the challenge of defeating it.

mimic

This awful, chimeric beast is known to take any number of forms to fool its prey, though no one knows whether it truly assumes those forms or merely tricks the minds of its quarries into believing it so.

Perfect

A mimic could be called a more advanced version of Horned Chameleon. While latter changes only its color, mimics can imitate theirs surroundings fully.

Mimics usually encountered alone and remain completely stationary until their prey comes to its melee range or attacks it first. Undisturbed mimics have an unique sprite (page picture) and therefore easy recognisable, but, if it already had a skirmish with someone before you saw it, it may have a diffetent sprite (most nasty case would probably be a mimic imitating a wall).

While in combat mode, mimic has a chance every turn to shift its image in form of some object from its immediate surroundings. Mimics cannot imitate empty space. Mimics chase their prey and attack in melee. Their melee attacks are capable of grabbing their prey (just like Jilted lovers) inflicting Stuck status effect.

Because mimics are passive until provoked and (more often than not) easily distinguishable, they can be simply left alone if your character is not up to the challenge of defeating it.
