A slumberling is a creature belonging to the bears faction. Slumberlings can be found in ruins and jungle tiles, as well as underground and in Red Rock, Grit Gate, and the Rust Wells.[1][2]
When first encountered, slumberlings will usually be asleep, and will not act in any way whatsoever. Slumberlings will only awaken after being attacked, and will then retaliate. They will usually attack the creature who awoke them first, but tend to prioritize targeting the player over other hostiles.[3] Every turn a slumberling is awake, they have a 10% chance to fall back asleep, even if they are engaged in combat or are otherwise occupied with a task.[4]
When awake, slumberlings will attack in melee with their \claws, natural long blade weapons that each deal 1d61-6 (Avg: 3.5) damage.[5] Slumberlings possess the Long Blade Proficiency (starting in Aggressive Stance), Flurry, Offhand Strikes, Hurdle, Charge, and Sprint skills.[3]
Tips
- Slumberlings are safe to exist near even for very early-game players, as long as the player remains vigilant of other creatures likely to wake them up, such as snapjaws.
- For a slumberling to charge, there must be at least two tiles between them and their target. This means that as long as the player character ends their turn exactly one tile separated from the slumberling, it will be unable to charge and unable to attack in melee, rendering it effectively harmless.
- If a slumberling aggros on you, don't panic. It will fall asleep again soon, so do your best to kite it until it does.
- Since they appear in early game areas, it is usually the first source of a +2 ego face that players will come across.
