The salthopper is a creature in the Insects faction, most commonly found in the desert canyons and flower fields. They are moderately powerful creatures for how early they are encountered, and can prove deadly to lower level characters traveling through the desert canyons.
A salthopper corpse, which salthoppers have a small chance of dropping upon death, can sometimes be butchered into a salthopper mandible. These are extremely strong long blades, nearly equivalent in power to a folded carbide long sword. However, given the low chance both for a salthopper to drop its corpse (8%) and for butchering its corpse to yield a mandible (15%), there is only a 1.2% chance of getting a mandible from a single salthopper.
