A low tier long blade that is a good early upgrade from the 
bronze long sword or 
iron long sword.
Steel weapons are frequently carried by novices of the sightless way, who can be found on the surface above Grit Gate. They are also frequently carried by snapjaws in higher-tier biomes, such as the Hills or Mountains biome.
