Warden Ualraig

Big Ualraig shifts his weight between his hind and forelegs. He shakes dander off the chipped surface of the great curling horns that splay from his temples. One hand holds a purring blade. The other, lame and frostbitten, reminds us that while Mother Nature may bestow splendid gifts upon her children, she is still sister to Cruelty.

Perfect

Warden Ualraig was the warden of Joppa prior to version 207.31 (Spring Molting). For the new page on Joppa's warden, see Warden Yrame.

Character

Not much is known about Ualraig; other residents of Joppa didn't mention him in conversation, and Ualraig himself only had one line of dialogue, perhaps indicating he was shortspoken. From his description, it can be gathered that he was an extremely mutated human with an extra pair of legs, two horns, and a "lame and frostbitten" hand.

Combat

Ualraig began neutral to the player but would become hostile if the player attacked him or any villagers of Joppa within view of him, or if he witnessed the player stealing from one of the village's containers. He could also be made hostile if the player's reputation with the Fellowship of Wardens falls low enough.

Equipment

Ualraig always came equipped with chain mail, leather boots, and a vibro blade, which came slotted with a fully charged chem cell. The vibro blade is a vibro weapon, meaning its PV matches the ♦AV value of the target it is being used against. It deals ♥1d101-10 (Avg: 5.5) damage.

Ualraig also had a chance of spawning with a random item from Junk 8 due to his level,[1] and would choose to switch out his normal equipment if this random item possesses higher stats.

Besides weapons and armor, Uulraig also always possessed 3 waterskins with varying volumes of water.[2]

Skills

Ualraig only possessed a single skill, Endurance, which automatically granted him the Shake It Off skill. This allowed him to more quickly recover from being dazed or stunned, and reduced the damage and duration of poison.

Mutations

Ualraig possessed Multiple Legs at mutation level 6, Horns at level 9, Freezing Ray at level 9, and Regeneration at level 8.[2] These together made him very fast and extremely dangerous both in melee combat and in ranged combat, and thus he was very hard to flee from once made hostile. His Regeneration increased his natural regeneration, occasionally cured him of status conditions, and allowed him to regrow lost limbs.

Traits

Ualraig always began the game loved by the villagers of Joppa. He would never be hated by them, fish, or dromad merchants.

Ualraig would never voluntarily sleep, though he could be forced to sleep through means such as sleep gas.[2]

Water Ritual

The player could perform the water ritual with Ualraig to trade secrets with him, or recruit him as a companion. He did not offer to teach the player any skills.

Tips

This section is opinion-based. Your mileage may vary.
  • Ualraig had many powerful offensive mutations such as Freezing Hands and Horns, as well as a vibro blade. This made him a decent partner if the player managed to get enough Warden reputation.
  • Ualraig's face gave +3 Ego and, if severed, would eventually be regenerated by his Regeneration mutation. As such, he could serve as a renewable source of faces for characters looking to boost their Ego.
