The neck-ring is always generated with the blood-stained effect, causing its alternate name, the blood-stained neck-ring to likely be more familiar to most players.[1] However, the stains can be removed by using the (c)lean interaction option in-game.
The neck-ring provides a significant boost to reputation with baboons, which usually prevents them from being hostile to the player. However, it is still possible for baboons to be hostile to the player while the player is wearing a neck-ring, such as if the player has exceptionally low reputation with baboons, or attacks a neutral baboon.
If a creature from the baboons faction is hostile to the player, and the player has a neck ring equipped, the creature will be inflicted with terrified for 2 rounds whenever they come within 5 tiles of the player.[2]
Trivia
- Despite its name, the neck-ring is typically worn on the arm.
- In earlier versions of Caves of Qud, this item was always called a blood-stained neck-ring, and the blood stains could not be cleaned off. This changed only after dynamic liquid-staining mechanics were introduced to all items.
- Because baboons share the locations of baboon lairs, a neck-ring can be the first step in locating large numbers of legendary creatures for reputation management. See the baboons article for more information.
