Baetyls are near indestructable objects that are often found within ruins, the flower fields or emitted out of space time vortexes. The normal baetyl does not grant quests: for baetyl quests and their rewards, see {{favilink|sparking baetyl}}. To tell the difference between the two, one can observe whether the baetyl emits sparks. Only baetyls that emit sparks will provide quests.

A baetyl is an object belonging to the baetyls faction. The only baetyl that can be encountered is a unique variant found in Bethesda Susa.[1]

Baetyls are completely immobile objects with extremely high health and ♦AV, meaning they are extremely difficult to destroy under normal circumstances. If a baetyl's hitpoints are somehow reduced to 25% of their maximum HP (500 HP), they will become broken. If their HP is further reduced to 20% (400 HP), they will violently explode with a force of 25,000, dealing ♥10d10+7585-175 (Avg: 130) damage to everything in a huge radius. This explosion is considered neutronic. After exploding, the baetyl itself will disappear, leaving behind a Space-Time Vortex.[2]

Baetyls have an inherent reality stabilization effect, while will contest reality distorting events.[3] The strength of this reality stabilization is equal to 120 when the baetyl is at maximum HP; if the baetyl takes damage, the strength of reality stabilization will be multiplied by the percentage of HP it has of its maximum HP.[4] Notably, reality stabilization will prevent baetyls from being revealed by Clairvoyance.

A baetyls reality stabilization and gas repulsion will be disabled if the baetyl is broken, rusted, or affected by EMP; however, its explosion effect will still function.

Baetyls will passively push adjacent gases away from themselves, with a 25% chance of doing so each round.[4][5]

The sparking baetyl is a kind of baetyl that can grant the player "quests".

Bethesda Susa Baetyl

baetyl

You gaze upon your own reflection in the lustrous chrome face of this conical orb. It emits a harmonic drone.

Perfect

A unique baetyl can be encountered within the Temple of the Rock, located at the bottom of Bethesda Susa. It is identical to a normal baetyl, save for having a different description. The player is also able to speak to it.

This baetyl is integral to the Decoding the Signal quest. It can be spoken with to "decode the signal" if the player is in possession of the stamped data disk [with Q Girl's instructions encoded].
