bionic heart is a moderate cost body exclisive cybernetic implant which grants the user +2 to Toughness
The bonus unlike boosts from equipment and much like the points obtained from leveling count towards the attribute requirements for certain skills. Additionally the extra toughness provides the user with +1 to toughness related saves, a faster natural regeneration rate as well as additional hitpoints both upon installation and while leveling up.
Advantages & Disadvantages
This section is opinion-based. Your mileage may vary.
Advantages
- Extra Hp generally translates to a higher overall survival rate.
- Unlike most of the saves associated with other attributes, numerous toughness related saves can pontetially have severe negative consequences on the user if they are failed, such saves include:
- Avoiding being afflicted with the mutating effect inflicted by gamma moths
- Avoiding the instant death that often results from being struck by the Lithifying Gaze attack emmited by lithofexes.
- Becoming infected with disease.
- Avoiding being stunned, oftentimes to death.
Disadvantages
- Addtional HP can become less relveant as the user advances in levels and capabilities.
- Can be fully replaced by injecting two Eaters' nectar injectors and boosting toughness, freeing up the highly competive bodyslot for an implant with effects that cannot be as easily replicated, such as equipment rack, magnetic core, high-fidelity matter recompositer or stasis entangler.
- Moderate cost can be a bit prohibitive depending on the user's license tier and build goals.
Tips
- Having the implant installed effectively provides the user with 6 levels worth of attribute points into toughness, meaning that if the user were to find and install bionic heart such as by moving the zone-tier adjusting gutsmonger one of which always spawns at the Six Day Stilt to a mid-tier location like Ezra and then taking advantage of the adjusted wares. The user with enough skill points would then be able to access various skills which require toughness at an earlier stage and without as much permanent investment into the attribute. Potentially making the implant useful for characters who generally avoid melee combat and consequently have less need for toughness but still wish to benefit from certain skills. Such skills may include:
