skin glitter is a cybernetic implant which grants the user an 8% chance to refract light-based attacks. The bonus from skin glitter like other sources of refraction does not directly stack with any other, even from another installed skin glitter. Instead, each individual source of refraction is calculated separately, meaning that two implanted skin glitters will not give a single 16% chance of refraction but instead two individual 8% chances to refract. This gives a 15.36% chance and in general translates to a lower overall chance of success than if the percentages were added together directly.
Advantages & Disadvantages
Advantages
- Low cost and capable of being installed into most cybernetic slots, allowing for easy temporary installation in the absence of more impactful implants
- The Light refraction can provide valuable (albeit limited) protection against certain early game enemies capable of light-based attacks. Such as the
low-light laser turrets and
laser turrets commonly found in
ruins.
- Enemies capable of light-based damage are reasonably common in the later game.
Disadvantages
- Only a very small chance to successfully refract a given light-based attack.
- Becomes largely irrelevant once the user has access to a more effective form of refraction such as the higher tier Skin glitter or a
rainboweave cloak.
Tips
- Can be used be used to help mitigate the temporary double vulnerability to light-based damage from consuming
skulk injectors.
- Provides protection from the otherwise completely deadly but refractable Lithifying Gaze emitted by the
lithofex.
