Jotun, Who Parts Limbs

The troll called Jotun slumps beneath the weight of his broad and cragged back. Soaking fibers of inky, unkempt hair enswathe the great, pale rocks that are his shoulders. Crossed over his chest are two carbide axes, their shafts knurled and rotting with rust. Jotun's rumpled eyelids lay half-shut over the discs of his sluggish eyes as he reclines in his bath of convalessence.

Perfect

Jotun, who Parts Limbs is a legendary Troll encountered in the first Healing Pool level of Bethesda Susa. He is the first of three legendary Trolls found there. The other two being Fjorn-Kosef, Who Knits The Icy Lattice, and Haggabah, Who Plies The Umbral Path. When defeated, Jotun will drop the bronze key, allowing the player to progress to the next level.

Combat

Jotun uses Axes to deal damage, as he has every Axe related skill. In melee range he will use his carbide battle axe, and for ranged he will use his throwing axes. Because of his strength, the PV of these will be 8 and 9 respectively. He will also utilize the Charge ability to close distance. Alongside possible dismemberment, Jotun is able to use Hook and Drag and nullify any DV that his victims may have had. This makes Jotun very formidable in melee combat.

In ranged combat, his strength allows him to throw his axes very far as well as accurately. Axes thrown will not trigger axe skills such as cleave or dismember, but they can do significant damage.

Like the other Troll bosses in Bethesda Susa, Jotun spawns a troll foal about every 15 turns, regardless if he sees the player or not.

Tips

This section is opinion-based. Your mileage may vary.
  • Engage Jotun as soon as you can when entering his lair, as waiting will allow him to spawn many Troll foals. This also applies to the other Legendary Trolls.
  • If you received the Scoped masterwork carbine for completing More Than a Willing Spirit, then firing at Jotun while keeping your distance is an effective strategy.
  • Any type of barrier like those caused by Force Wall, Force Bubble, and Stopsvalinn will prevent his throwing axes from passing, as well as prevent him from engaging in melee combat.

Trivia

Caution: This article or section contains unverified speculation and should not be considered canonical.
  • His name, Jotun, is very similar to Jötunn, who are the race of frost giants in Norse mythology.
