Kith and Kin is the final quest in the optional Bey Lah questline. It is started automatically once Hindriarch Keh is spoken to after Eskhind's return and Find Eskhind is complete.
Once you obtain the quest, Angohind will helpfully offer his expertise on how to find clues and solve a mystery. Warden Neelahind can offer information about the various suspects. Clues can be items on the ground, geographical features, information from the populace, or the looker descriptions of key NPCs. After gathering evidence, the player can speak with Neelahind to accuse the thief who stole Kindrish. The outcome of the player's investigation can significantly affect Bey Lah's fate.
Journal
Brief Warden Neelahind
XP: 250
- Tell Bey Lah's Warden about the disputed nature of Kindrish's theft.
Optional: Discover all the evidence
XP: 250
- Discover all evidence that might lead to the thief.
Accuse the thief
XP: 1000
- Speak to Warden Neelahind with evidence of the event and accuse the thief that took Kindrish.
Gathering Evidence
Gathering evidence involves searching the village for two types of clues:
- Circumstance: clues that reveal the circumstances of the crime (the supporting evidence, as explained by Angohind)
- Motive: clues that indict a specific thief (the implicating evidence, as explained by Angohind)
On a given playthrough, the player can find up to four circumstance clues and four motive clues (more specifically, one motive clue for each suspect). Finding all eight clues fulfills the optional quest objective, though this isn't necessary; the player can make an accusation with as few as one circumstance and one motive clue, if desired. The clues are randomly chosen when the quest is started, and therefore cannot be influenced by the order in which the player searches the village[1].
All available clues can be obtained from one of the following sources:
- Item: found by locating a suspicious item on the ground and looking at it
- Rumor: found in conversation with unnamed Bey Lah villagers
- Look: found by looking key quest NPCs
Additionally, each clue has an influence: Craft, Trade, Illness, or Violence. The influence is an important factor in determining the quest outcome and rewards, explained later.

Accusing the Thief
The thief can be one of four suspects: Hindriarch Keh, Eskhind, Kesehind, or a kendren (an outsider).
Each suspect cannot be accused by certain clues[2]. If the player makes a poor accusation that Neelahind considers to be false due to her knowledge of the suspect, that suspect is ruled out and player is prevented from accusing them again.
Possible Thief | Cannot be accused with (Clue ID) |
---|---|
Keh | HeardFighting, HeardLoudSplashing, CopperNugget, SeveredTongue, LeatherScraps |
Eskhind | BloodyWatervine, BulgingWaterskin, GreatSaltbackPrint, PoolOfPutrescence, ForeignLeatherworkingTools |
Kesehind | SplinteredWeaponHaft, TalkingLateAtNight, YuckwheatChaff, YuckwheatStench, SoundOfToolsAtNight |
Kendren | BloodyPatchOfFur, SawATrader, SoreThroats, LeatherGoneMissing, WornBracer |
Note that there is no correct answer, and a successful accusation by the player will be treated as the truth. The outcome of the quest is dynamically generated and based only on the player's choices, which can change who is Hindriarch and alter Bey Lah's future.
Determining Outcome
The final outcome of the quest will depend on three main parts: the accused thief, the climate, and whether the crumpled sheet of paper was delivered to Neelahind.
After completing Kith and Kin, the village will undergo its outcome depending on the player's choices.[3]
Climate
Climate represents the overall mood of Bey Lah and has three different values depending on the Circumstance and the Motive. If both are either Trade or Craft, the climate is Prosperous. If both are either Illness or Violence, the climate is Tumultuous. Else, the climate is mixed. This directly has an effect on the final outcome: however, the accusation's climate is not always the outcome's climate.
Motive\Circumstance | Trade | Craft | Violence | Illness |
---|---|---|---|---|
Trade | Prosperous | Prosperous | Mixed | Mixed |
Craft | Prosperous | Prosperous | Mixed | Mixed |
Violence | Mixed | Mixed | Tumultuous | Tumultuous |
Illness | Mixed | Mixed | Tumultuous | Tumultuous |
Individual Character Outcome
Thief\Letter Delivered | Not Delivered | Delivered |
---|---|---|
Keh | Keh Exiled | Keh Exiled |
Esk | Eskhind remains in exile | Eskhind remains in exile Neelahind joins Eskhind in exile |
Kese | Kesehind is exiled | (Only if the climate is Tumultuous. Otherwise, the outcome is the same as not delivered): Eskhind remains in exile
Neelahind joins Eskhind |
Kendren | Eskhind remains in exile | Eskhind remains in exile Neelahind joins Eskhind in exile |
Hindriarch
Who is chosen to be Hindriarch after the events of the accusation is either Eskhind or Keh. This depends on several things.
Esk will be Hindriarch if either is true:
- The climate is anything other than tumultuous (in mixed/prosperous climate)
- The accused thief is Keh
- Kesehind is the thief and the love letter wasn't delivered (If it is, Eskhind will remain exiled)
Else, it is Keh.
Village Outcome
The basic logic of whether the village survives can be simplified into one or two checks based on the climate:
Prosperous | Mixed | Tumultuous |
---|---|---|
If Eskhind is the thief and the love letter is given, or the thief is Kesehind without the love letter given, it will survive. else, it will prosper. | If Keh is the thief and the love letter was delivered, it will prosper. Else, it will survive. | If Keh is the thief and the love letter was delivered, it will survive. Else it will be ravaged. |
In all climates, accusing Keh with Love and Fear complete will always result in the best outcome compared to other possible results in that climate. When the village prospers, the trader Isahind will also start to trade Tier 2 wares. If the village is ravaged, the entire village will be on fire with hindren corpses littering the ground.
Letter Delivered
Thief\Climate | Prosperous | Mixed | Tumultuous |
---|---|---|---|
Keh | Village prospers | Village prospers | Village survives |
Esk | Village survives | Village survives | Village destroyed |
Kese | Village prospers | Village survives | Village destroyed |
Kendren | Village prospers | Village survives | Village destroyed |
Letter is Not Delivered
Thief\Climate | Prosperous | Mixed | Tumultuous |
---|---|---|---|
Keh | Village prospers | Village survives | Village destroyed |
Esk | Village survives | Village survives | Village destroyed |
Kese | Village survives | Village survives | Village destroyed |
Kendren | Village prospers | Village survives | Village destroyed |
Rewards
- Reputation: The climate determines the amount of hindren of Bey Lah reputation rewarded to the player: +200 reputation for prosperous, +100 for mixed, or 0 for tumultuous.
- Items: The item rewards for Kith and Kin depend on the thief's identity and their motive. The circumstance adds a bonus to that reward.[4]

Accomplishment
For better or worse to the fate of Bey Lah, you solved the mystery of Kindrish's disappearance and helped Warden Neelahind administer justice. |
Tips
- If you are missing clues even after searching the entire village and talking to everyone, double-check your inventory for quest items, as they could have been collected by auto-pickup. Note that you do not receive credit simply by picking up a clue's item - you must use the look command on it. Some of the items are even classified as food or ammo, which can make them easy to overlook amongst other items in your inventory.
Trivia
- Prior to the quest being revamped, there was a chance for the village to collapse under the right accusation. If the village collapsed, the village would be covered in putrescence and hindren corpses, and the hindren afflicted you found would be inflicted with Glotrot. This is no longer possible, since the only result will choose ravaged instead.
