Its head is a shard of grinded metal, pointed on one end and flat on the other. Dust is stuck in its hairline nicks and shines across the opalescent spectrum of rock possibility.

Perfect

A pickaxe is a simple, if uncommon, digging implement. It will destroy any wall after eight successful penetrations, or four if it is gigantic.

Against walls with a high armor value (AV), several attempts may be necessary to penetrate with a pickaxe. However, because the player is always guaranteed to penetrate on a critical hit, with patience, even the most well-armored wall can be destroyed.

Equipping a pickaxe grants the "Dig" activated ability, which is a form of auto-action. It allows the player to select a tile as a target destination, regardless of distance or visibility. Upon confirming selection of a destination tile, the player will automatically move in a straight line to that destination while automatically attacking and destroying any walls in the way, provided they are not interrupted while doing so.

Considerations

This section is opinion-based. Your mileage may vary.
  • Although it will destroy walls with eight successful penetrations, it is not particularly effective against mid-level walls compared to a  nanopneumatic jackhammer or Burrowing Claws due to its poor inherent PV.
  • Against high-AV walls such as  fulcrete, however, both pickaxes and jackhammers will fail to penetrate. In this case, the significantly lower weight of the pickaxe may outweigh the lower PV.
