Insects are a large and diverse faction of arthropods and their nests. Their repertoire includes elemental damage, summoning swarming broods, damage reflection, and highly accurate natural projectiles.

Combat

Being prepared to fight insects requires being prepared to fight in their terrain.

Insects fill niches suited to their zone. In Eastern Qud, "glass cannon" insects such as giant centipedes and glowmoths prey on the lightly armored. In the rust-caves of Golgotha, the corrosive gas of agolmaggots forces creatures into open spaces to be picked off by the *jaundiced glow of agolflies. In the corridors and among the dense foliage of ruins, fire ant queens overwhelm their targets with constant elemental attacks from their brood. Deep underground, mirror bugs reflect light from lasers and the stony gaze of lithofices.

Aside from this, insects typically fight with their faces.

Culture

The insects faction includes insects of all orders, as well as centipedes. The predator-prey relationships many of these species have in real life are not present in Qud. The faction also respects fireflies and their symbiotes.

The cultures of insect-led villages heavily focus on nesting and multiplying. This is presumably because of their many predators, as in real life; the locations of insect lairs are sought after by apes, birds, arachnids, frogs, and unshelled reptiles. Insects also value pollen, influencing the secrets they are willing to trade.

Insect names may be styled after the Greek and Latin roots used in binomial nomenclature.
