Man Opener

Though nearly extinct now, for a few short decades the pit beetle was a must-have accessory for any bandit fort or murder cave. Sporting a pair of articulated horns, a determined pit beetle excels at its favorite activity: peeling away armor and feasting on the contents. As violently loyal as she is affectionate, Man Opener is a paragon of her kind. She wanders Qud in search of a new keeper, or at least a friend.

Man Opener is a domesticated beetle and a death trap without a cause. Her denominal man opening inflicts cleaved, reducing her target's AV. She can further reduce AV by dismembering body parts which may have armor equipped.

While the natural weapons of most Insects are wielded on their heads, Man Opener's \man openers are part of her antennae, allowing her to wear hats and helmets without sacrificing combat capability.

Good Things Don't Last

Once, she had a good steady job.

She lived at the bottom of a pit, and every so often her roommates would throw down a very angry person wearing heavy plate armor. Her self-appointed job, which she took very seriously, was to peel off all of that armor and eat the angry human. Every once in a while, one of her roommates would climb down into the pit to collect the armor, clean up any mess she left, and pet her carapace.

It was a fantastic gig, but sometimes good things don't last.

One day, the loyal beetle woke up to the death grip of suffocation, for her pit had collapsed. As she was very strong and very determined, she dug her way to the surface only to discover a scene of ruin. Her roommates were dead and stripped of gear. Their murderers were long gone.

She wanders now, free but aimless.

An excellent choice of pet for characters who would like to wear a face without investing into anything melee-related. She's almost like a budget Warden Indrix.
Her three pairs of legs allow her to wear:
- three pairs of movement speed-raising equipment;
- six leather bracers with the wooly item mod, granting her +30 resistance to heat and cold as well as restoring some of the AV sacrificed when equipping her with sandals of the river-wives/ elastyne slippers/ yeshyrskin slippers.
