    Hermits

hermits are a faction whose members live independently from civilization and societies. With the exception of honey skunks, they are humanoid. While hermits can be found throughout Qud, their presence is strongest in the hills, jungle, baroque ruins, and the Palladium Reef.

At the cost of 150 reputation, a legendary hermit can teach the Berate skill, a verbal attack most useful in ranged or psychic combat. While they are apparently interested in trading "secrets about books," currently, no such secrets exist.

    Water Ritual Option

"I promise not to bother you again, hermit."

    — the Hermit Oath

Hermits value their solitude. While performing the Water Ritual with a legendary hermit, the player is given the option to gain 100 reputation with hermits with no immediate drawback. After ending the conversation, however, speaking to the same hermit again will punish the violator with a reputation penalty of -200.

    Tips

This section is opinion-based. Your mileage may vary.
    • When the player character gets lost, in most places, there is a hermit nearby who can help. This is useful for low-Intelligence characters who would rather use their meager SP to learn combat skills instead of  Wayfaring, or for anyone who's just been sucked into a  spacetime vortex.
