Look On the Blight Side

Once upon a time, just near the very end of the interregnum, some unknowable force from within the Gyre spawned a little girshling. This was not unusual, for many girshlings were created undersized or misshapen. Some girshlings were made so strangely that they died before they could ravage a single crop.

But this one was different. How shiny were her many eyes! How stubby her little legs! How pathetic her little squeal when danger loomed! Even other Girsh could not help but come to her aid when she failed spectacularly at girshlinging.

So endearing was her countenance that none could call her girshling. So, goshling she became, surviving and thriving in spite of her unsuitability as a plague.
