Two wide eyes open like bright-shored lochs of a different realm. The mere act of looking traps your own eye in their currents, and you're dragged through a procession of spectral forms and drowned in their black waters before rising to the surface of your familiar, buoyant world. Now the smooth and feathered bird is visible to you, lit from behind by a distant gleam. As they flap the shadows off their wings, they appear to take on the shape of something else.

Gloaming is a Nullphase owl pet that is available to patrons. They cannot be damaged or interact with the world in any way. They can be spoken to, but will only return hoots and corrupted markov sentences of a similar style to either / or's speech. Upon entering a new zone, there is a 2% chance for Gloaming to beat their wings and reveal a random secret. This can be sultan history, locations on the map, and gossip.
There is also a 10% chance every new zone for Gloaming to gleam with an unearthly light. They will start to flicker and take on the shape of a random creature. Once they start gleaming, there is a 30% chance for them to stop. This is mostly a cosmetic effect, but has a unique effect if they are affected by normality while gleaming. When reality stabilized, the message "Gloaming's astral tether snaps and their binal specter substantiates as a (random creature)." will appear, and Gloaming will be replaced with that creature. One turn after, Gloaming will respawn by the player[citation needed].
