The chaingun is a mid-tier heavy weapon that is notable for its high magazine capacity and the large number of projectiles it fires in a single shot. Because of this characteristic, the chaingun can take down multiple targets in a single turn, and it can compete with or outperform other top-tier ranged weapons when fighting swarms of enemies or targets that do not have very high armor (AV). When fighting enemies with very high AV, a different heavy weapon or a rifle with higher penetration may be preferred.
One of the most significant challenges of using a chaingun for an extended period of time will be keeping it supplied with enough lead slugs, because it is quite ammo-hungry. Dedicated chaingunners may want to buy all the lead slugs they can find from merchants, and also consider learning how to craft additional slugs with the relevant Tinker I schematic.
Obtaining
The chaingun can be:
- Found as random loot in mid-tier or high-tier zones or occasionally equipped by random creatures.
- Mechanimist rummagers have about a 2% chance of spawning with a chaingun.[1]
- Crafted with the Tinker II skill, after obtaining the required schematic.
- Disarmed from chaingun turrets, which are one of the most common varieties of turrets.
