Weapon Class: Pistol
Accuracy: Low
Multiple ammo used per shot: 4
Multiple projectiles per shot: 4
The chain pistol is a mid-tier pistol that is notable for being the only pistol that fires multiple projectiles from a single shot. Because of this characteristic, the chain pistol can compete with or outperform other top-tier pistols when fighting enemies that do not have very high armor (AV). When fighting enemies with very high AV, a pistol with a higher penetration value will likely be needed.
Obtaining
The chain pistol can be:
- Found as random loot in mid-tier or high-tier zones or occasionally equipped by creatures.
- Mechanimist rummagers have about a 5% chance of spawning with a chain pistol.[1]
- mysterious gunslingers have a 25% chance of spawning with a chain pistol.[2]
- Obtained as a reward under certain circumstances in the Kith and Kin quest.
- Crafted with the Tinker I skill, after obtaining the required schematic.
- Disarmed from miniature chaingun turrets.
- Found held by Dardi, although he will not part with it willingly.[3]
Advantages & Disadvantages
This section is opinion-based. Your mileage may vary.
Advantages
- Due to its high rate of fire, the chain pistol is uniquely effective in combination with certain cooking effects, such as the Whenever you perform a critical hit... triggered effect.
- Its fire rate also makes it remarkably effective at disarming opponents using Disarming Shot.
- Using the nulling mod, the chain pistol can potentially destroy forcefields protecting an enemy and disarm them in only one shot.
Disadvantages
- Its high fire rate and use of lead slugs as ammo means using it for an extended period of time may require special attention to keep it supplied.
- Buying additional slugs from merchants or learning the tinkering recipe may be necessary.
- Its relatively low PV means it will not be able to deal damage to high-AV targets.
