ultra-elastic ankle tendons is a moderate cost feet-exclusive cybernetic implant which upon installation increases the user's movement speed by 10.

The boost is for all intents and purposes considered a part of the user's baseline movement speed, essentially meaning that effects which utilize the user's base movement speed, such as the percentage movement bonus provided by skulk injectors will take the implant's boost into account while calculating final speed total. As opposed to the extra movement speed provided by some gear items such as rocket skates which is generally ignored.

With the 10 extra movement speed and no other augmentation, the user is able to move one additional time every 10 movements.

Advantages & Disadvantages

This section is opinion-based. Your mileage may vary.

Advantages

  • Allows the user to somewhat slowly outrun most creatures.
  • Can be useful in the absence of motorized treads for ranged characters who want to use high movement speed as a way to avoid hostile creatures.
  • Improves the effectiveness of gear items which provide additional movement speed such as sandals of the river-wives or bounding boots.

Disadvantages

  • Many underground spaces are fairly cramped, limiting the utility of smaller movement speed bonuses.
  • Moderate cost can be a bit prohibitive depending on the user's license tier and build goals.
  • Can be fully replaced by yeshyrskin slippers, a pair of which can be obtained from Crowsong, freeing up the feet slot for an implant with effects that cannot be as easily replicated like pentaceps force modulator or anchor spikes.

Acquistion

By nature of being a cybernetic implant, it is not necessarily guaranteed to find ultra-elastic ankle tendons in a given playthrough, especially when the relatively limited availability of cybernetics (compared to other items) is taken into consideration. However, despite this scarcity, there are specific places where the user can look in order to maximize their chances of a successful acquisition.

  • Alternatively, if the user would rather guarantee eventual access to a copy of ultra-elastic ankle tendons, they can take the following action:
    • Under normal circumstances, the guaranteed gutsmonger present at the Six Day Stilt only provides a restocking inventory of 6-8 implants taken from the cybernetics 1 drop table. However, gutsmongers, unlike most other merchants, adjust the tier of their wares to correspond with whatever zone they are currently standing within. This essentially means, that if the user were to make a gutsmonger a follower, such as by using the Proselytize skill or a love injector, the user could then transport said gutsmonger to a mid-tier location such as Ezra, in order to have access to a permanent and restocking source of mid-tier implants.
    • The newly transported gutsmonger can then be cloned with a rebuked cloneling in order to massively increase the number of cybernetics available each restock. Allowing the user with enough dedicated farms to eventually obtain any implant of any tier.

Tips

  • The boost provided by the implant especially when combined with other sources of movement speed such as nocturnal apex can be used to augment the effectiveness of the Hook and Drag skill, which bases its instances of damage on movement.
  • The implant becomes a tad more effective if the user primarily stays above ground. Various biomes such as the salt desert or jungle are generally open, allowing the user to better take advantage of the extra speed, without as much risk of being cornered in the comparatively tight corridors of lower strata.
