In its infancy, rock streamed through the planet in plumes of magma, spilled into hushed caverns, and quickened pools of protoplasm out of its stilled inertia. Plates slipped and matter was crushed, pressurized. Later, as entropy bore cracks into the crust, sticky lifethings fused to the rock and scuttled forth. In geological terms they are tiny things, but you insist that scale is the wrong one.
The great magma crab is a powerful creature belonging to the crabs faction, typically found deep underground. It can also be encountered in the lower levels of the Asphalt Mines.[1]
The great magma crab attacks in combat with its \red-hot claw, a Cudgel weapon that deals 3d63-18 (Avg: 10.5) damage. Great magma crabs possess the Cudgel Proficiency, Dual Wield, and Flurry skills, as well as a unique skill known as Shattering Blows.[2]
Great magma crabs are completely immune to heat damage of any kind, as they possess a heat resistance of 100. They also possess an extremely high burning and vaporization temperature, equal to 99,999,999°.[2]
Finally, the great magma crab possesses two otherwise unobtainable mutations: Enhanced Skeleton and Kinetic Dampening. However, they currently serve no function.
Shattering Blows
Shattering Blows grants the attacker a 10% chance to inflict one of the following effects with each cudgel attack:[3]
- If the target is the player, a longer-duration version of the cracked effect on one random piece of the player's equipment.
- If the target is not the player, or if the player has AV greater than 0, a longer-duration version of the cleaved effect.
- The player typically only has AV greater than 0 if they have intrinsic AV, such as AV granted from the Calloused skill.
Both effects last for 2000 turns[4], which is longer than a full day in game. Both effects can also stack, leading either to cracked pieces of equipment with a greater than -1 AV penalty, and/or to a cleaved effect on the player/creature with a greater than -1 AV penalty.
In extreme cases, such as a historic site filled with rustaceans, it is completely plausible for a player to get reduced to 0 AV for a long period of time due to this effect. For example, a player with the Calloused skill might have all of their equipment cracked down to 0 AV, as well as a -3 or -4 penalty from a cleaved effect directly applied to themselves.
Animated Effect
In-game, the great magma crab has a unique "flaming" animated effect:
