When you charge an opponent with an axe and hit, if you cleave their armor, they get an additional -1 penalty to their AV. If you have Dismember, your chance to dismember when charging with an axe is doubled. |
The increased penalty to AV isn't limited to the axe in the primary limb. The primary limb doesn't need to wield an axe at all. A Charge with a long blade and an offhand axe still counts as a Charging Strike. Any axe that triggers cleave during a charge will cleave 2AV, up to the limit (Strength modifier / 2, round up)
If the limit is 1, a Charging Strike that triggers Cleave will exceed the limit by inflicting a -2 AV penalty. If the limit is higher, a Charging Strike that triggers Cleave will increase the debuff by up to 2, but will not exceed the limit.
If the creature also has Dismember, any one-handed axe attack during a charge has a 6% chance to dismember. Any two-handed axe attack has a 12% chance to dismember.
It's possible for a single axe attack to both cleave and dismember.
This skill is "shared" with the Cudgel skill tree. Purchasing it in one unlocks its "twin" in the other (bypassing all requirements).
Factions That Teach Charging Strike (Axe)
Charging Strike (Axe) is not taught by any of Qud's persistent factions. However, procedurally generated factions such as village factions can teach randomly chosen skills as part of their water ritual.
Creatures That Have Charging Strike (Axe)
No creatures have this by default.
Any creature with Charging Strike (Cudgel) also has Charging Strike (Axe), but only a few creatures have Axe skills to go with it.
