custom visage is a moderate cost cybernetic implant which upon installation allows the user to select one faction of their choice to gain +300 reputation with.
The granted reputation is considered permanent and functions exactly like reputation obtained from other sources such as the water ritual. This means that the additional reputation can be used during the water ritual to purchase skills or secrets and also works for any other reputation checks such as determining whether walking on fractus will damage the user. However, due to the extra reputation being considered permanent, if the user were to use up the +300 reputation with a faction and then uninstall the implant, -300 reputation will still be deducted from the user's total, potentially turning that faction permanently hostile.
Assuming baseline values, the extra reputation is enough to make the user non-hostile to basically any faction with the only exceptions being Oozes and the Children of Mamon. However, it is possible to render both factions natural provided custom visage is installed, this can be accomplished by recruiting k-Goninon and Mamon(favilink error!) with either a
love injector or the
Proselytize skill and proceeding to water ritual them, the +100 reputation will then be enough to make either or both factions non-hostile.
Advantages & Disadvantages
Advantages
- Makes most initially hostile factions neutral to the user.
- Can be used to make specific locations with guaranteed creature spawns safer, such as selecting Cragmensch in order to turn the many that spawn in Bethesda Susa non-hostile.
- Can allow the user much easier access to valuable skills and secrets from the water-ritualing certain factions.
Disadvantages
- No direct utility in combat.
- Usually destroyed when uninstalled, limiting useability without careful planning.
- Can technically be mostly replaced with Schrodinger pages from the Annals of Qud.
Notable Reputation Targets
There are various factions where +300 reputation provides strong utility
Faction | Offered Utility |
---|---|
Robots | Makes various exceptionally deadly creatures such as galgals and chrome pyramids non-hostile. |
Mollusks | Renders Slog of the Cloaca non-hostile, lowering the danger of navigating Golgotha's cloaca. |
Naphtaali tribe | Allows easier access to legendary unplanished godheds, which can then be water-ritualed for permemant robot reputation. |
Consortium of Phyta | Potentially opens up an alternative way to complete the The Earl of Omonporch quest without convening the council, lowers prices of consortium merchants and allows the user to more easily learn Snake Oiler from the oddly-hued glowpad or Asphodel, Earl of Omonporch. |
Putus Templar | Most legendary templar can be traded with during the water ritual for 1 cent credit wedges and/or the locations of Historical sites and ruins with becoming nooks. |
Girsh | Can be used along with 3 equipped girshling fangs(3 face gear slots can be achieved by wearing one helmet modifed to be two-faced and magnetizing another) to make the Girsh Nephilim non-hostile, allowing the user to more easily pacify them. |
Chavvah (faction) | Allows the user to learn the Tomorrowful skill from _ and still have enough reputation left over to trade secrets for the otherwise extremely difficult to find location of Girsh Qas and Girsh Qon. |
Trolls | Makes Jotun, Who Parts Limbs, Fjorn-Kosef, Who Knits The Icy Lattice and Haggabah, Who Plies The Umbral Path non-hostile, giving the user much more reputation to trade in the water-ritual for the locations of various rare items. Such items include: Kindrish, Stopsvalinn, the Ruin of House Isner and the part of the Great Machine chosen during world generation. |
Procedurally Generated Villages | Randomly generated villages can occasionally spawn with valuable learnable skills like En Garde! or Weapon Mastery which would otherwise cost too much reputation to be earned normally. |
Tips
- While the implant is generally destroyed when uninstalled it can be preserved, this is most safety accomplished by using the Amputate Limb skill on the user's face while custom visage is installed, the severed face can then be butchered in order to reclaim the implant for further use.
