quills

Hundreds of needle-pointed quills cover your body.

(max quills) quills
May expel 10% of your quills in a burst around yourself (((Level-1)/2) ♥1d3)
Regenerate (Level)d4 quills every 10 rounds
+(Floor(Level/2)+1) AV as long as you retain half your quills ((AV - AV penalty) AV otherwise)
Creatures attacking you in melee may impale themselves on your quills
Cannot wear armor
Immune to other creatures' quills

Max Quills

At level 1, Quills starts with 300 max quills. At level up, the next max number of quills is randomly chosen:

Math.Max(300, this.nMaxQuills + (NewLevel - 1) * Random(80, 120))

(For the non-code-literate, this formula simply means that, at each level-up, the player’s max quill count is increased by a random number from 80 to 120)

Advantages & Disadvantages

This section is opinion-based. Your mileage may vary.

Advantages

  • Quills provide a moderate AV (as long as the player retains at least half of their quills) which scales with mutation level while also having no DV penalty or weight
  • Quill burst hits all adjacent tiles
  • Makes the player immune to other creature’s quills
  • Hits flying creatures

Disadvantages

  • Quill burst has fairly poor damage and penetration at all levels
  • Quills prevents the player from wearing any body Armor.
  • Quills lacks elemental resistance that normal high tier body armor provides
  • Relatively high mutation point cost at character generation
  • Quill regeneration speed does not scale using willpower
  • Quill fling only attacks adjacent squares. If the quilled creature is engulfed, quill fling will not damage the engulfing creature.
