When the player is prompted to pick a mutation, one of the three options will denote that picking it will cause the player to grow a new limb, in addition to gaining the chosen mutation. This limb can be any biological body part (including parts from non-human bodies), but is weighted toward limbs that possess equipment slots. The limb can grow out of any existing limb on the player's body, including other limbs grown via Chimera. Regardless of location, limbs will function as any other limb of their type would.

Chimera

You only manifest physical mutations.

Chimera is a genotype that limits the player to only being able to acquire physical mutations and defects. It can be chosen upon character creation. This does not affect temporary mental mutations gained by equipment or cooking, but it will prevent the chimera from gaining a mental mutation from drinking brain brine or from a water ritual.

Chimera has an additional effect that occurs when the player buys a mutation via mutation points or gains one through Unstable Genome.

Arms or arm-equivalents acquired by Chimera have a base 15% chance to attack and are affected by the Jab skill. They will also participate if the player uses Flurry. If a chimera arm is considered the "off-hand", it will also be affected the Dual Wield skill tree, as described on the Dual Wield page.

If the player has Irritable Genome, they will instead have a 33% chance to acquire the additional limb upon gaining a mutation, as it will not offer players a choice of mutation when buying one. Mutations gained through Unstable Genome will still offer the player a choice and allow them to pick mutations that grant limbs, however.

Tips

This section is opinion-based. Your mileage may vary.

Advantages

  • This Morphotype limits the random mutations you gain after character creation to physical type mutations at the cost of 1 MP
  • Makes you immune to Psychic Glimmer, although mutations from Mutating can manifest as mental mutations.
  • Allows you to grow additional limbs for extra equipment and weapon slots

Disadvantages

  • You are limited to only get random physical mutations for the rest of your character's life, so it is possible (theoretically) to run out of places to put points into mutations
  • Additional limb slots will cause equipment stats to average across all limbs of the same type, meaning more equipment is required for the same AV and DV bonuses
